WHY GO DIGITAL?

Instant Preview:
Being able to immediately see how a shot appears on a screen is good for assessing the qualities of an image such as composition, light, angles, and posture. Subjects are more at ease when they get a good idea of what the final result will be.

No Roll limitation:
Rolls are usually limited to 36 exposures which can often stop the flow of a fast paced shoot. Being able to record up to 400 high resolution frames on a single drive allows for many more images to be captured in a row. The more images there are, the broader the choice of images to select the best shots from.

Speed of Delivery:
Images from a session can be made available in minutes rather than days. A CD can be created at the end of a shoot which allows clients to browse through the unedited images at their leisure. Final edits can be delivered electronically to clients and/or publications anywhere around the world in record times.

Digital Editing, Effects and Manipulation:
Minor adjustments such as light and colour balancing are often made at the edit stage of an image. In some cases, manipulation will be appropriate. Effects can be applied such as "air brushing" elements in or out of a frame or toning for monochromatic prints like sepia or blue. Heavy manipulation is often carried out for more creative projects such as artwork for graphic designers sourcing material for an advertising agency or a client (record label, club promoter...).

No Need to Scan:
Artwork destined for publication (whether on or offline) will inevitably have to be digitised as even the most traditional paper publications use digital technology for layout and printing. It is important to note that old school "wet" prints when sent to a publication will always need to be scanned. High quality layout-ready files are always received more favourably by publications such as magazines as they involve less preparatory work - if any at all. High impact, time and cost saving promotional material is an attractive proposition to both clients and publishers alike. What looks good, arrives fast and costs least maximises exposure potential.

New Media
Digital photographs are ideally suited for use on the web. Images can be resized and compressed to specific formats to suit site galleries or profiles. Generic images (such as close-up shots detailing an office building/venue) can be supplied according to a given brief to liven a site's interface.

Old Media
The quality of the images created is suitable for printing to sizes well beyond A3 and the typical A4 traditional ink publications. Salamander Photo images have been published in a variety of magazines an ever growing list of which can be supplied on request.

Performers using hard copies of their portrait as publicity shots, and collectors looking to frame prints can rest assured that with the appropriate image and processing, Master Wet Prints can be enlarged up to about 30 x 20 inches for mounting and framing with results that usually compare favourably to traditional 35mm film.

Speed of Distribution:
When maximum exposure is the goal and deadlines are tight, digital images are the vital element of an effective Electronic Press Kit. They can be sent out by email as picture attachments or placed in a download area of the site that is accessible to those who have been supplied with the specific web address.

This download facilty allows Press Officers and PR Companies to include in their press release a link to galleries of high resolution images on the Salamander Photo Server rather than send files via email servers which in most cases limit attachments to a maximum size of 1 or 1.5 Meg. The files are accessible 24/7, are fast and easy to download.

Electronic distribution save clients valuable administrative time and considerably improve press coverage.

Low Cost:
There are no processing costs such as developing, contact sheets or scanning. Images can be printed from personal computers and from a multitude of high street outlets as well as high end professional labs for very large formats. Even if an image is needed for a cover the other side of the world, courier deadlines and costs are now academic.
